Aggiungere all'Atom la tecnologia Hyper-Threading è stata una mossa intelligente da parte di Intel. Il processore viene utilizzato decisamente meglio dalle applicazioni ottimizzate, e le prestazioni possono aumentare fino al 37%.

I limiti dell'archittetura "in-order", che esegue le istruzioni una dopo l'altra, sono chiaramente visibili. Un Celerono a 1,20 GHz è più veloce del 35%, rispetto all'Atom a 1,60 GHz. L'Atom, però, consuma solo una frazione dell'energia richiesta dal Celeron. Il sistema AMD Sempron ha consumi in idle comparabili a quelli dell'Atom, e però è il 43% più veloce.
