Dal forum di Beyond3d, viene svelata una curiosità riguardante il gioco F.E.A.R e i driver ATi. L'autore che l'ha scovata, afferma:
If you rename the FEAR.exe file to something else and then run the built-in benchmark @ 1,600 x 1,200 x4 x8 (max details except no soft shadows) you get 40FPS for the X1800 XT (A64 FX-55, NF4 etc).
Run the benchmark with the exe file name unchanged and you get 29FPS.
Now, if it was the other way round the reason would be obvious (ie driver recognising fear.exe and switching on ops, etc), but this is certainly odd. Any thoughts anyone?
EDIT: the filename change does not appear to effect performance on the 7800...also, X1800 appears to be rendering correctly with the renamed exe file.
Quindi, rinominando l'exe di F.E.A.R con qualsiasi altra parola, le schede ATi dovrebbero avere un boost prestazionale. Curiosa la cosa, visto che di solito con le ottimizzazioni si hanno aumenti prestazionali, mentre qui siamo davanti a un calo.
Le considerazioni che possiamo fare sono due: ATi ha volutamente "frenato" le prestazioni delle sue schede per ribattere ad nVidia aumentando di colpo le prestazioni, o è semplicemente un bug dei Catalyst?
