Dalla PCI Express 1.0 alla 2.0
Per dirla senza fronzoli, aggiornare dal PCI Express 1.x a 2.0 non ha molto senso al momento. Le schede più veloci attualmente non caricano il bus PCI Express tanto da mostrare una differenza tangibile. Tutte le schede del test, generalmente, hanno mostrato un incremento delle prestazioni minore dell'1 o 2 percento, con l'HD2900 XT che raggiunge i migliori risultati, malgrado il fatto che non abbia un'interfaccia 2.0. Questo miglioramento dovrebbe essere dato dal nuovo chipset o dalla velocità più elevata della memoria. Una differenza da 1 a 3 punti percentuali, inoltre, va poco oltre il margine d'errore dei test.

Resta da vedere quale sarà la situazione con le schede grafiche Geforce 9, o con le Radeon 4xx0, che trasferiranno grandi carichi di dati attraverso il bus. In ogni caso, i chipset P35 e 975 sono più che sufficienti per le schede attuali.
