Anche se il nostro focus è sul funzionamento in ambito workstation, usiamo una scheda madre maggiormente orientata ai server basata su chipset Intel C204, la S1200BTL. L'unica limitazione di questa piattaforma è una configurazione dello slot PCI Express pensata per l'espansione dell'archiviazione e della rete. Ad esempio l'unico slot a 16 linee è collegato per velocità x8.
L'altra cosa interessante è che - anche se abbiamo visto processori desktop funzionare in workstation di altri produttori - l'S1200BTL non ha riconosciuto i nostri chip Sandy o Ivy Bridge, limitandoci al test degli Xeon Xeon LGA 1155.
